36 Refugees arrive off Rameswaram coast

RAMANATHAPURAM: As many as 36 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees are reported to have arrived in one of the sand dunes off the Rameswaram coast early Monday morning.

According to officials, the refugees had informed about their arrival through the fishermen.

The officials said that a team had been sent to verify if the refugees had landed on the Indian side. The refugees would be rescued if they had landed in the Indian side, officials said.

TIRUCHI: Eight wagons of a goods train derailed at Kodumudi near Erode Sunday night disrupting through traffic on the Erode-Tiruchirapalli broad gauge section.

Southern Railway sources said that the goods train was proceeding to Erode from Veerarakiam near Karur when the derailment occurred. Through traffic was restored around 09-00 hrs.

Following this the Cochin-Tiruchirapalli Tea Garden Express and Mysore-Thanjavur Express suffered a delay of more than five hours, the sources added.
