Student boycott extended

The boycott campaign launched by the students of Chelvanayapuram Tamil Maha Vidyalayam on Friday has been extended to all schools in the Trincomalee town from Tuesday.

The Students' Forum said the boycott of schools would continue until Nagarasa Gengeswaran, a Year 11 student now under the custody of the Police, is released.

The Police arrested this student on Thursday morning at the 3rd Mile Post Police sentry. The student's parents live in the refugee camp maintained by the UNHCR at Alles Garden in Uppuveli area.

Another student Nagarasa Pavanenthiran, a GCE A/L final year student of Pallikuddiruppu Hindu School in Muttur was arrested on Sunday afternoon by the army at Kattaiparichchan-Palanagar sentry point, when he was on his way to town to buy provisions, accompanied by his sister.

Both students are now being detained at the Headquarters of the Trincomalee Police, sources said.
