The bodies of thirty four Tamil civilians, including a woman were found in the jungle near Thampalakamam in the Trincomalee district. The victims had apparently been abducted by Home Guards (Sinhalese civilians armed by the Sri Lankan government).

The bodies were subsequently identified as those of a local mill owner, his wife and his employees. The bodies were discovered by the mill owner’s son when he went in search of his missing parents.
