SL Nvy opens fire killing five Tamil fishermen

The Sinhalese navy on Friday and Saturday opened fire on Tamil fishermen off Mullaitivu coast killing five people.

On Saturday(Mar 7th) the navy fired at a group of Tamil fishermen fishing off Ampalavan Pokkanai killing three of them. Two fishermen escaped the ordeal by jumping into the sea and were rescued by a Tamil search party. Fishing gear worth several thousands of rupees was burnt when the boats caught fire as the navy's rapid-fire hit the vessels. The killed fisherman are - Sebamalai Ravindran Ravi (26) father of two, Antonypillai Joseph (42) father of four and Ariharithasan (29) father of two. On Friday the navy opened fire on another group of Tamil fishermen fishing off Kallapadu, killing two.
