  • Arrest of Sri Lankan opposition leader escalates post-election repression
    [ Amnesty International ] - [ Feb 09, 2010 2:20:34 GMT ]

The arrest of retired General Sarath Fonseka, Sri Lanka’s former Chief of Army Staff and opposition political candidate in Sri Lanka’s recently held Presidential Election, escalates post-election repression, Amnesty International said today. "Sarath Fonseka's arrest continues the Rajapaksa government's post election crackdown on political opposition,” said Sam Zarifi, Amnesty International’s Asia-Pacific Director. “After the military defeat of the LTTE and a major election victory, President Rajapaksa should steer the country toward a better human rights record. DESPERATE OUTLAW, THE INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIMINAL-GOTABHAYA RAJAPAKSA: The Defense committee rigidly spearheaded by Gothabhaya Rajapaksa, has pledged the miltary loyalists in the army to arrest Sarath Fonseka in order to dictate his POWER thorughout the island. The timing of Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit with his team to RUSSIA and sending two-men team to meet the officials at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland is part of the pre-planned strategy to Despotic-Totalitarian-rule in the island. Gothabhya Rajapaksa is fully aware that he is GUILTY OF KILLING more than 30,000 IDPs and surrounded men & family to the Army. Let the WORLD-AT-LARGE bring this ICJ to JUSTICE.
