The Australian High Court has delivered a serious blow to the practice of denying refugees visas on the grounds of negative security assessments. A 36-year-old Sri Lankan man found to be a refugee, was refused a protection visa after an adverse security assessment. The High Court today ruled that the public interest test, which is used to reject visa applications on security grounds, is invalid, because it's NOT consistent with Australia's Migration Act.
