The Federation of Thamil Sangams of North America, Inc. (FeTNA), with assistance from the Thamil Sangams/Associations in Florida, will be celebrating the 21st Annual Thamil Convention at the Bob Carr Center for the Performance Arts in Orlando, Florida, on July 4, 5 & 6, 2008. This year’s Convention is being celebrated as “Thamil Music Scholar” Periasamy Thooran’s Centenary Celebrations. The details of this Convention are given in the flyer published elsewhere in the newspaper. Members of various Thamil Sangams and Thamil enthusiasts from all over USA and Canada will attend this mammoth annual event to celebrate and enjoy Thamil language, literature, and culture.
The Convention Coordinator Thiru. Sri Subramaniam and FeTNA President Thiru. Thillai K. Kumaran cordially invite you and your family to attend this Convention which features many festivities. In 2007, the Annual Thamil Convention was held at the Progress Energy Center for the Performance Arts in Raleigh, North Carolina and it proved to be a huge success. The Bob Carr Center for the Performing Arts in the City of Orlando -- this year’s venue of FeTNA’s Annual Thamil Convention -- is a state-of-the-art auditorium in which Walt Disney shows and other well-known symphony orchestras, plays and operas are routinely conducted. Since the seating capacity is only 2,300, the organizers strongly recommend early registration to avoid last minute disappointment.
By attending this annual Thamil Convention, a family can have the “at-home feeling” of being with thousands of fellow Thamil people and enjoy treats including a Thamil Classical music concert by “Kalaimaamani” Sudha Ragunathan; light music concert conducted by the well-known Ainkaran & Anitha Music troupe and the popular playback singers from Thamil Nadu Krish and Chinmanyee; several plays, dramas, dances; and other enchanting entertainments.
Other attractions include: Award-winning actor Thiru Sathyaraj; award-winning film Directors Thiru. Thankar Bachan and Thiru. Seeman; humorous speaker Thiru. Erode Mahesh of Sun TV’s “Asathap Povathu Yaaru?” fame; Thamil activist and Professor Suba Veerapandian; Thamil Music Scholar Thiru. N. Mammathu ( www.Thamilinnisai.org ); and Silappathikaram Dance Drama by “Kalaimamani” Narthaki Nataraj.
Continuing from last year, a special Literary Conference on the topic, “The Renaissance in Thamil Prose, Poetry and Drama during the Twentieth Century” will be held on July 6th. The invited speakers include: Thiru. Thinker Pecan, Thiru. Seaman, Prof. Scuba Veerapandian, Thiru. Erode Mahesh, Thiru. N. Mammathu, Dr. Vasu Renganathan (Prof. of Thamil, University of Pennsylvania), Dr. Naga Ganesan of Houston, and Thiru. Ve. Iraiyanbu, IAS (Secretary, Dept of Tourism & Information, Government of Thamil Nadu). A noteworthy feature will be Prof. Mammathu’s exposition of “Thamizh Isai”.
A Thamil Internet and blogger workshop will be conducted in association with International Forum for Information Technology in Thamil (www.infitt.org) and Thamizmanam, a web-based Thamil blog aggregation (www.thamizmanam.com).
A new attraction of this year’s Convention is YOGA workshop. This Sidha Yoga program is being organized in association with Aliyar Vethathiri Center (www.vethathiri.org). Several instructors are visiting USA to conduct Yoga session exclusively for our registrants.
